Stacy Slabaugh

Stacy Slabaugh is a Social-Emotional Resource Teacher at Sunnyside Elementary in the Olathe School District, with 20 years of experience working with students struggling with behavior regulation. She has served as both an elementary general education teacher and a paraprofessional, providing her with a well-rounded perspective on supporting diverse student needs. Stacy focuses on fostering students' academic and emotional growth through targeted, innovative interventions.

Stacy has developed successful self-contained programs for students with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders (EBD), creating structured environments where students learn to regulate their emotions and behavior while feeling safe and valued. She supports students through evidence-based practices and her approach empowers students to understand their behavior, recognize triggers, and apply strategies to navigate challenges.

Stacy’s classroom has become a model for effective behavior programming, with professionals from other districts and universities visiting to learn from her methods. She incorporates mindfulness, outdoor exploration, and hands-on learning to help students succeed.

An active leader and ESU Master Teacher of The Year Nominee, Stacy serves on the MSLBD Master Teacher Committee, leads her school’s PBIS team, and mentors new Special Education Teachers. She has presented professional development sessions and received grants for initiatives like Nature Play and regulation tools. Stacy is passionate about helping educators create classrooms where students with EBD can thrive.

Stacy became part of the MSLBD Master Teacher Group in 2024.
